Description
All our infrastructure and helper scripts should be upgraded to work with Python-3 urgently, since several Linux distributions are phasing out Python-2 support. This is expected to be mostly a mechanical task; however we have to wait until we can use a Python-3 enabled version of Scons (our buildsystem)

Resolved as part of the infrastructure overhaul in winter 2025/26.
The Lumiera issue tracker is now powered by Trac 1.6, and the Server upgraded to Debian-13.
Thus the migration is now even enforced: there is no support for Python-2 any more.
