GUI top-level Application Context

this is a tracking ticket -- individual tasks depending.

Tasks and Issues pertaining the central "root realm" of the Lumiera GUI. This is started as a plug-in an operates like a business application without business logic: there is a limited circle of central entities, which together operate the graphical interface, collect and redirect user interactions and offer display services for the lower layers. As of 2018, the backbone is in place, but a lot needs to be filled in to make it actually operative and get rid of the preliminary placeholder solutions...

This topic is effectively in the works since some time. Just recently I have successfully re-arranged the most prominent components #1067 and the new structure looks promising. The next important step will be to establish the backbone for our timeline display #955
